Okay, so I’m biased on today/tonight’s post. Tonight’s guest blogger is my love, my girl, Allison. Allison has completed me in many senses, and has all around made me a better person. Each day I wake up and find it easier to be a better person because of my love for her. To get a bit of a better understanding of who she is to me, check out THIS post from a few days back.
I’ll also go ahead and link over to her blog, however she has not really touched it in quite some time…she’s been busy with work, school, and well, ME. (: Anyhow, check her few blog posts out here: My Beautiful Love. It will help you get an understanding of who she is.
Today’s song that Allison is going to review, is number eight on UNITED’s latest album, titled, Soon.
Listen to: Soon
Below are the lyrics, take a minute to read them and then I’ll let Allison jump in spirit first and share her heart.
Soon and very soon
My King is coming
Robed in righteousness
And crowned with love
When I see Him
I shall be made like Him
Soon and very soonSoon and very soon I’ll be going
To the place He has prepared for me
There my sin erased
My shame forgotten
Soon and very soonI will be with the One I love
With unveiled face I’ll see Him
There my soul will be satisfied
Soon and very soonSoon and very soon
See the procession
The angels and the elders
‘Round the throne
At His feet I’ll lay my crowns
My worship
Soon and very soonThough I have not seen Him
My heart knows Him well
Jesus Christ the Lamb
The Lord of heaven
First of all, I love this song because it is completely stripped down to mostly the piano and the voices; forcing you to take in every lyric and focus on lifting your voice up to God. It’s a closer, personal moment to cry out to Him rejoicing in the day coming where we will see His face.
The lyrics are very purposeful. The phrase ‘soon and very soon’ is repeated many times in an attempt to convey the importance of such a simple message.
But what do you think of when you hear the word ‘soon’?
* I’ll be there soon…
* Coming soon…
* It will be done soon…
It could mean anywhere from a matter of minutes to days and weeks in the near future. But when I think soon, I know it is not very far away. Hearing the word soon in this song made me stop to realize and comprehend for a moment the power and realness of Christ.
This is what He promises:
Soon and very soon my King is coming, I’ll be going to the place He has prepared for me, and I will be with the One I love.
I love the chorus.
I will be with the One I love
With unveiled face I’ll see Him
There my soul will be satisfied
Soon and very soon
The face of the Lord will be unveiled when we come before Him, and we will finally see the face of whom we give all of our heart and mind and soul. Can you even imagine what that moment will be like?? Humbly bowed before God clothed in all His glory and splendor. My heart and my mind cannot be wrapped around the intensity and yet ultimate peace of that moment.
And then it says my soul will be satisfied. Just as a tall, cold glass of water satisfies a thirst after a long, hard run, as will being with our Lord in Heaven finally satisfy the thirst of our souls. All of the work and dedication and love and persecution and hard-fought effort that we put into living the life of Christ on earth will finally, FINALLY be completely satisfied.
To me, this song is a challenge, but one that comes with the ultimate reward. What are we doing right now during our time on earth to prepare us for the coming of Christ? He is coming SOON. Are we putting forth all of that drive and effort here now that will one day be completely satisfied? I know that when I enter into Heaven and am able to live in eternity and experience all of the lyrics of this song, I want to know that I did everything I could do to enable as many people as possible to be there experiencing it with me.
Then at the end of the song, it slows and almost comes to a realization point.
Though I have not seen Him
My heart knows Him well
Jesus Christ the Lamb
The Lord of heaven
We do not know what God looks like. He can appear in a variety of different ways to us, and we know it is Him, but no one can say that they have looked upon the face of the Lord and knows what he looks like. But that doesn’t matter. We KNOW Him. We know His love and grace and we know Him as our Father. Many times when we get to know a person, it doesn’t matter really what they look like to us, because we begin to identify with their heart and personality first rather than their looks. We have done the same with Christ. We know who He is to us on a very intimate level and we don’t need to know His face before we see Him, because in that moment, our heart will know.
At the end of Revelation, in the very last chapter of the Bible, the Lord says, “Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.”
My challenge to you is this: First, replay this song, stop, and lift your hands to God. Worship in the moment of what it will be like to look upon the face of your Lord Jesus Christ, and only through Him be completely satisfied. And secondly, I challenge you to live your life fully and in the spirit of Christ, because we will be with Him in the place He has prepared for us soon and very soon.
If you enjoyed Soon, be sure to go HERE, and purchase the song or entire album. Also, take a moment and check out my girl’s blog: My Beautiful Love
