“God, where…are…You?”

Psalm 145
1 I will exalt you, my God the King;
I will praise your name for ever and ever.
2 Every day I will praise you
and extol your name for ever and ever.
3 Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.
4 One generation will commend your works to another;
they will tell of your mighty acts.
5 They will speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty,
and I will meditate on your wonderful works. [b]
6 They will tell of the power of your awesome works,
and I will proclaim your great deeds.
7 They will celebrate your abundant goodness
and joyfully sing of your righteousness.
8 The LORD is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and rich in love.
9 The LORD is good to all;
he has compassion on all he has made.
10 All you have made will praise you, O LORD;
your saints will extol you.
11 They will tell of the glory of your kingdom
and speak of your might,
12 so that all men may know of your mighty acts
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.
The LORD is faithful to all his promises
and loving toward all he has made. [c]
14 The LORD upholds all those who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time.
16 You open your hand
and satisfy the desires of every living thing.
17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways
and loving toward all he has made.
18 The LORD is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
he hears their cry and saves them.
20 The LORD watches over all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.
21 My mouth will speak in praise of the LORD.
Let every creature praise his holy name
for ever and ever.

Do ever feel that you just need something in your life?

You have no clue what it is, yet your heart seeks this “thing”. The only knowledge you know is that you hurt. You find your spirit constantly in roam. You seemingly find no substantial solid ground in your faith, or in your life in general. You, as a person, are constantly searching and digging to find this thing. While as a Christian, we totally know that God is the answer, or at least we say we know due to what we’ve read or what we’ve heard. Regardless, we seek, and we seek, yet we endlessly find ourselves at the end of that search in more pain than what we were prior to. We constantly ask God, “where are You?” We become angry, we become more desperate, we become depressed. We want to give up. Our wounds are opened up for all to see. We are bleeding in every area of our lives. And truly, we know, that we…cannot…go on.

Yet we do.

We push on. We our held up, somehow. We make it through the constant days and weeks of pain. Our tears have dried up due to the amount that our body has already poured out. Our body’s are dehydrated, our voices tremble. We have no patience for the people we love, yet we still press forward. Still, we wonder, “God, where…are…You!” We claim His absence. We claim He has forsaken us. We become pissed at the Church, and blame those around us for not praying or loving us like we need. If only they had prayed more, we know that God would have carried us through. If only our family and friends would have loved us more, we could have found a strength through their efforts and love. But they didn’t, so now we have to claim this pain.

Yet again, here we are, still surviving long enough to claim ALL of these things.

Do you relate?

Do you constantly question God about his presence in your pain?

Do you wonder if people really are praying for you?

Do you question whether the people in your life really do love you, or do they have a side hidden agenda?

Do you ever believe that today is your last day, yet somehow tomorrow continues to come?

I know right now, if you are reading this, you are waiting for a great conclusion paragraph to tell you the answer to all of the questions. The truth is, I don’t have one. I, just like you, am seeking answers to each one of these questions.

I suck at a lot of things.

It’s true, I do. What I do offer is that I will pray for each one of you who will read this. You can leave a comment with something you need prayer for, or you can just simply be a number on the amount of hits to this blog post. Regardless, I will pray for your number or for your comment.

I will leave you with the song below, be blessed. Again, feel free to leave a comment with anything at all.

    I wish I had the answers to some of these myself. A lot of times I find myself wishing and thinking that I could rely on all the people around me to take away my pain and help me through the hard times. I wish that simply by spending time with them and knowing that I am loved is enough to fill that void. But they aren't enough. Not even close. This is when we turn to God. But when we feel like God isn't there, where do we turn then? It's one of the lonliest feelings in the world. It brings about pain, doubt, and fear of the certainty of the future.

    …But He is there. Many times it's just hard for us to find Him. We let so many other things block our view of Him, and that makes us fear such a separation. I think that sometimes the things that block us from God are out of our control. And they always come at us by storm. For someone like you and me, not being in control over a situation in our life is a major step out of our comfort zone. We just don't like it. I question a lot of these things too, I wish it was easier to just trust. But I think that God wants us to question things, because it means we care enough to really sit back and think about His power and plan.

    Just know that I will always be praying for you daily, you can count on that. I'll support you in everything, and I will always love you, with a pure and devoted heart, never a hidden agenda. That is something you can count on to hold true. Everything else, we'll get through together.

    I love you babe.

    you are so genuine and that's what i love about your life and your writing. i can sense the post today is not only for you, but for lisa and her kids, for the mcrae's, and for everyone else who struggles to see the hand of God in everyday life.

    since you are offering to pray, and because i would've told you and allison this anyway, please pray for us. bob is changing jobs, joining a startup, and we'll be living off our savings as things get ramped up. we've done this before, and we know God will provide. bob just needs some confidence as he re-enters the business world. he is in negotiations for when he'll leave Clark, and we want to leave at peace with everyone.

    miss you guys tons! wish you could move here so we could hang more. hugs from here…don't be afraid to ask the questions. He's got big shoulders. He can handle it.

    I''m there wondering why.
    Yes, there is more, but how do I get there.
    Feel like a kid who has been left out in the cold looking in on the families sitting by the fireside.
    God is there, when I worship with other people I know it.
    On my own I escape and fill my life with meaninglessness…
    I''m good at surviving, pushing through, being faithful, doing the right thing…
    But currently I'm cracking
    All I can do is hope that things will get better
    All I can do is hope in God
    I know nothing else satisfies but I keep running alone

    Ann, I am praying for you. Praying that you will not just in your mind know that God will satisfy and be faithful, but that your heart will grasp and never let go of the truth that God has given us. I am praying that you can worship is good times and in bad. I am praying that you will quit escaping for things that will never fill you up, and that you will rest in the arms of our Father who not only we can love, but more so, that He loves us. I am praying that you will quit 'just' surviving and pushing through, and that you will LIVE AGAIN and be running towards mercy and hope. I'm praying for you.
