This blog will be short and to the point.
At Dialogue Church we often worship to the song How He Loves by John Mark McMillan. It’s one of the songs that reaches Dialogue’s core. Today I was informed of a David Crowder Band version of this song. The song is to be launched on their new album I believe to be titled ‘Church Music‘. Needless to say this excited me.
Below is a link for you to go and listen to the full song before the album comes out. I’ll warn you, it’s nothing like JMM’s version or Kim Walker’s version. DCB has once again turned a song into their own while still capturing the truth of God’s love for you and I in the lyrics “How He Loves…”
After you listen, be sure to give your input on the song, the lyrics, and if you’ve heard the other versions, your thoughts on DCB’s version compared to the other.
LISTEN TO: How He Loves
I get a feeling this song is about to rock the world.

this song…what can i say about what this song evokes in me? in light of our conversation the other day, kyle, THIS is what i need to remember when i think about how challenging it is to live the Christian life
HE LOVES ME
OH HOW HE LOVES ME
HOW HE LOVES ME SO
a simple, profound, yet slippery TRUTH. may the enemy shriek in pain every time he hears it sung!
Wow that is awesome. Crowder always amazes…Thanks for posting this man….
Pretty cool post. I just came by your site and wanted to say
that I have really liked browsing your posts. In any case
I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!
Does anybody know what Crowder is singing in place of the line, "heaven meets earth like a SLOPPY WET KISS?" He's definitely singing something different there…but it's hard to make out (no pun intended).
He sings "like an unforeseen kiss"
David Crowder's substitution "unforeseen kiss" is better than "sloppy wet kiss" but could be even better. I can't think of anything better yet. Anybody has a suggestion?
One word in the lyrics I don't quite understand what it is saying is "sinking". "sinking" has a connotation of something bad like getting in trouble, about to die, drowning… but grace is a good thing… we should embrace it, desire it above all else, jump or grab or leap for it, right?
Also, I don't understand "these" regrets is ambiguous. I don't know what regrets the song is talking about. Why is my heart turning violently inside … with regret? The closest reference is "heaven meets earth", and "grace like an ocean"… surely I shouldn't regret that?
Please help me understand.
Personally, I like the "sloppy wet kiss" lyric. I didn't at first, but it kind of grew on me. :o)
I've thought a lot about the "sinking" lyric myself. When I think about sinking, I think about being overtaken by something so much bigger than us that there is nothing we can do to fight it. God's grace is so far beyond our comprehension that we can't help but sink in it. Even if we try to fight it, or convince ourselves that it's not there, we will forever be sinking in God's all-consuming grace in our lives. The deeper we sink in His grace, the more He surrounds and covers us in it.
I think the term "these" is not really referring to any specific lyric in the song, but rather a state of being that we seem to constantly inhabit. Regardless of how we live life, we seem to always have regrets. Even if we don't hold onto them or dwell on them, we momentarily regret nonetheless. But "I don't have time to maintain these regrets when I think about the way…. He loves us." Nothing else needs to even cross our mind or take up a thought of worry because all we have to do is think about His love for us.
This is just my interpretation, hopefully if any of that makes sense that it helps!
